RocheStarFest 2021 Cancelled!

Astronomy Section,

It’s with a very heavy heart that I announce that our ASRAS Board of Directors has decided to cancel this year’s RocheStar Fest (RSF).  This is out of caution and an inability to predict the efficacy of new CoVid Variants’ influence on our event at the Farash Center– especially indoors for our afternoon speakers, dinner and feature talk.

We will still have events for that weekend where we can observe and listen to a great speaker:

  • On Friday August 27, we will host a Members Observing night at the Farash Center at Dusk.
  • On Saturday August 28, we will have our scheduled  Virtual Talk by Alex Filippenko at 7pm ( credentials to follow)

There are several Talks, Videos, and Demonstrations for RSF that we will try to incorporate into our regular meeting schedule.  Several Astro vendors have donated door prizes for RSF that we will raffle off in December at our Strasenburgh Planetarium Holiday meeting (which will also be a little different from our usual affair).

For those of you that have already registered and paid, please contact Lori Englund to arrange your refund:

I know this is very disappointing for many of you, as it is for me, but I’m sure that you understand that we do not want to put any Astronomy Section member or their friends/family in a potentially dangerous situation that we cannot control.

I hope to see you at our Member Observing event on August 27 (or before!)

Mark Minarich, ASRAS President
