SUMMARY:Strasenburgh Planetarium free telescope observing
DESCRIPTION:Strasenburgh free telescope observing update for tonight\, 7/20/24: It’s going to be mostly clear to partly cloudy tonight with pleasant temps in the low 70’s\, but with limited objects available. The Moon is full\, not the time to see much detail\, and by the time it rises above the trees it may be near 9:30. The strong moonlight may make dim deep sky objects very difficult to see\, especially if there are even a few high clouds. No major planets till Saturn returns in September. So we’ll be there from 8:30 to 10:30 but won’t have anything to view till near 9:30 and even then\, just a mostly featureless disk due to no shadows from a day/night terminator line. \nWe open the scopes weekly on Saturday night through the onset of winter if clear enough to view. Park behind the planetarium and just before entering the rear glass doors\, climb the 61 steps to the telescope deck. ASRAS volunteers will be there to explain the views and chat about astronomy and science in general. Questions? Call Jim Seidewand\, cell 585-703-9876 nights and weekends. Watch our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ASRAS.Club/  for late updates.

SUMMARY:Strasenburgh Planetarium free telescope observing
DESCRIPTION:The forecast is clear for tonight. But we have no planets or Moon\, so we are limited to dim deep sky objects after 9:30 pm. Our main concern for tonight is that we may have hazy skies again\, we’ve been struggling with that for 3 weeks\, and even some Canadian wildfire smoke starting to get here tonight. That could make dim objects tough to observe\, so we don’t want to over-hype the night. \nWe’ll be there before sunset\, about 8:30\, for a nice 70 degree night and astro conversation and if lucky\, will see a few dim objects after it gets darker after 9:30. Free\, park behind the planetarium and just before entering the rear glass doors\, use the stairwell to the right and climb the 61 steps to the observing deck. Questions? Call Jim Seidewand 585-703-9876 \nWe’ll be trying weekly on Saturday nights through the onset of winter when clear. We’ll have a nice Moon on Aug 10th and our first very late views of Saturn the following week. Saturn will get earlier every week and Jupiter joins the party in late October.

SUMMARY:Strasenburgh Planetarium free telescope observing
DESCRIPTION:Strasenburgh Planetarium Free Telescope outlook for Sat 8/10/24:\nVery hopeful with mostly clear skies. Temp in the high 60’s but a bit of a breeze\, so wear a light jacket. We’ll be open from 8:30 till 10:30. \nThis night will feature a beautiful 30% crescent Moon\, best early as it sets before 11. It gets dark a bit earlier each week now\, so we may be able to start viewing dimmer objects about 9:30 if the haze improves this week. No promises\, but we may get our first low views of Saturn at the very end of the night\, low in the east and still a bit fuzzy being low. \nWe do this weekly on clear Saturday nights till winter weather sets in. Park behind the planetarium and just before entering the rear glass doors\, climb the 61 steps to the observing deck. Need more info or last minute weather info? Call Jim Seidewand 585-703-9876
