This page is devoted to information on Supernova 2008ax in NGC 4490.   Basic information on this SN, including the last reported brightness, on this Supernova can be found on the main page.  Information on the original web pages for many of these images can be found on the updates and links web pages.

image Discovered independantly by Lick Observatory Supernova Search (USA), Koichi Itagaki (Japan).   The spectrum of this one has an interesting past.   Initially it was suspected to be a blue variable (not an SN), then it went to a young type II, and is now reported as a type Ib.   This one was found very young found in the Cocoon galaxy.   We have a DSS Photometry reference image made by Odd Trondal.  Icon generated from the discovery image.   This supernova is in the Constellation Canes Venatici.
