Supernova 2001ai in NGC 5278

sn01ai_i.gif This is a supernova of the fairly rare type Ic. It was found in a Mag 13.6 galaxy named NGC 5278 which is connected to it's smaller companion NGC 5279. The supernova is imbeded in a bright H II region. We have a DSS Photometry reference image made by Odd Trondal. Icon created from the LOTOSS discovery image.
