Our fourth star party of the year moves back to the east side of town, Mendon Ponds Park. Deep sky objects will be featured. Come take a peek at star clusters, gaseous nebulae where stars are being formed, and faint galaxies hundreds of light years away. Early in the party, we'll have a look at Saturn and a crescent Moon, getting low in the west.
There are free public events, held explicitly for members of the public to come see the sights in telescopes provided by members. Experienced guides will explain what you're seeing.
Held only if clear, and because skies change rapidly, check this website during the last hour or call Jim's cell phone 703-9876 within the last half hour before the party for on site updates.
Mendon Ponds Park is located about 20 minutes southeast of Rochester.
To get there from Rochester, take Clover Street (Rt 65) south out of Pittsford. About 3/4 of a mile after passing over the Thruway, take the first left into the park (Canfield Rd). Go about 3/4 mile and make a right on Hopkins Point Road. We'll be about 1/4 mile along on the right. Park on the right shoulder, not on the grass to avoid damage to the field in wet Spring conditions.
