For the year 2006, 554 (a new record!) supernovae have been reported (367 last year).   67 in NGC and IC galaxies (80 last year), 172 got brighter than 18th Mag (149 last year). 27 extragalactic novae were also reported.   The brightest supernovae reported for the year are 2006dd at mag 12.1, followed by 2006ce at mag 12.4, 2006mq at mag 12.7.

Interesting events in 2006
• For a short time 2006dd and 2006mr were both visible in NGC 1316
• For a short time 2006dn and 2006el were both visible in UGC 12188
• For a short time 2006br and 2006dz were both visible in NGC 5185
• 2006aj is the afterglow of Gamma ray burst GRB 060218
• 2006ov in M61 is a type II found a month old.
• 2006X in M100 is a type Ia found very young.
• 2006gy was found by image subtraction, and is now a type II supernova, not an AGN as earlier reported.  
• Announced supernovae 2006U (AGN) and 2006fp (blue variable in UGC 12182) turned out not to be supernovae.
• 236 supernovae were repored by the SDSS Collaboration.
• My count is 3 off the CBAT count due to unnannounce supernovae in ATEL 723 and ATEL 827.
