Bright Supernovae - 2006
This data comes from
IAU Circulars
and occasionally more data will be provided on
IAU's
Astronomical Headlines page.
An archive of the 2006 updates
to this page is available.
This is a partial list of the SN discovered in 2006.
Since some 2006 supernovae are still visible, please look at the
main page for the latest data.
Note that Extra galactic Novae have been moved to a special
Extra galactic novae page.
For more information,
you can look at the following Supernova Catalogs:
IAU List of Supernovae since 1885
Mike Richmond's Supernova list
For the year 2006,
554 (a new record!) supernovae have been reported
(367 last year).
67 in NGC and IC galaxies (80 last year),
172 got brighter than 18th Mag (149 last year).
27 extragalactic novae
were also reported.
The brightest supernovae reported for the year are
2006dd at mag 12.1, followed by
2006ce at mag 12.4,
2006mq at mag 12.7.
